Film Market
The Brazilian Film Market (BFM) is the most important event of the Los Angeles Brazilian Film Festival. It stimulates discussions, and creates opportunities for filmmakers to meet, greet and exchange information about Brazil and United States.
The Los Angeles Brazilian Film Festival – LABRFF is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Latin American Training Center (Rio de Janeiro) and the Cesnik, Quintino & Salinas Law firm (São Paulo) to offer the LATC/CQS Program for Audiovisual Content Producers. The program will take place April 30th and May 1st at the Landmark Theatre in West Los Angeles.
The LATC/CQS Program consists of three separate but coordinated components, conducted by two professionals from Brazil, designed to provide an intensive commercial and legal panorama of audiovisual opportunities in the Brazilian marketplace:
- Seminar of 3 lectures;
- Technical Audiovisual Commercial/Legal Consulting Clinic;
- Book launch, “Fiscal Incentives for Audiovisual Co-Production,”
All three events are open at no charge to anyone interested in doing business in the audiovisual sector in Brazil, including screenwriters, producers, agents, lawyers, and other professionals, with or without projects; however, the Clinic offers limited space and requires advance registration (see details below).
1) SEMINAR OF THREE LECTURES
When: April 30th, from 3:00 to 6:00pm
Where: The Landmark Theatre, Westside Pavilion
What: Three technical presentations on topics related to audiovisual projects and activities, focusing both the Brazilian market as well as providing a global panorama of the sector. Lecture topics include:
- “New Audiovisual Business Models” Steve Solot offers a panorama of new business models and international trends in the global audiovisual industry. Topics include the global audiovisual sector in numbers: U.S., Europe and Latin America; digital content delivery; Digital Rights Management (DRM); selected obsolete vs. successful business models;
- “Audiovisual Financing and Tax Incentive Legislation in Brazil” Dr. Guilherme Anders offers a presentation of current tax incentive regimes for Co-Production of audiovisual content in Brazil. Topics include: Rouanet and Audiovisual laws; Audiovisual Sectoral Fund, specific aspects of fiscal regimes and tax benefits to sponsors.
- “The New Rio Film Commission: Structure, Goals and Operations” Steve Solot offers a presentation of the new management of the entity and its main objectives, which includes programs being implemented to further enable development of audiovisual content production in Rio de Janeiro.
2) BOOK LAUNCH
When: April 30th at 6:30
Where: The Landmark Theatre, Westside Pavilion
What: Launch, sale and signing ceremony of “Fiscal Incentives for Audiovisual Production and Co-Production in Ibero-America, Canada and the United States” Cocktails/ appetizers served.
A unique source for consultation by producers, audiovisual policymakers, investors, lawyers, film institutes, students and film industry professionals in general. Published by Entidad de Gestión de Derechos de los Productores Audiovisuales (EGEDA) and the Latin American Training Center (LATC), the book contains detailed technical information on tax incentives, legislation, and bilateral co-production mechanisms in selected countries of Latin America and Spain, Portugal, United States and Canada. Each chapter appears in the original language the author, legal and technical experts their respective countries. Present at the event will be the publication´s coordinator, Steve Solot, and one of the authors of the chapter on Brazil, Dr. Guilherme Anders.
3) LATC-CQS LEGAL AND COMMERCIAL CONSULTING CLINIC
When: May 1st beginning at 11:00 am
Where: The Landmark Theatre, Westside Pavilion, Refreshments will be served The Clinic consists of a previously-scheduled private meeting with Dr. G. Anders and S. Solot for a 30 minute, free-of-charge consulting session. At this meeting, the project, concept or proposal (film, TV, documentary or other format) is presented and receives feedback on fundraising, project approval by Ancine, Rio Film Commission support, identification of local producers, pitching, tax incentive laws and other guidelines for the production of audiovisual content and marketing in Brazil. In addition, at the end of each session, the producer will receive a written evaluation by the consultants. Prior registration is required. The Clinic is open to anyone interested in doing business in the audiovisual sector in Brazil, including screenwriters, producers, agents, lawyers, and other professionals, with or without film projects.
